How to Permanently Unlock Your iPhone.

People are often confused about whether their iPhones are Factory Unlocked or Locked to a specific carrier. When you are about to buy a new iPhone or second-hand one, you must be aware of the IMEI status of the iPhone.

I know there is a lot of new vocabulary; Factory Unlock, Locked, IMEI... but by the end of this article you will gather a clear idea about this.

before we proceed, I want you to know that the term Unlock has nothing to do with Jailbreak, don't get confused about this. The Unlock is aiming to release the restriction made by the mobile carrier network you are using, while the Jailbreak is only providing a full access and modifications of certain files on iOS.

There is a difference between a Locked iPhone and an Officiall one. How can you determine that?

The first thing you need to do is to grab the IMEI Number of your phone, The IMEI is similar to a fingerprint, completely unique in your device. When officially revealed, your IMEI is included with an Apple database which often authorizes the device regarding unlocking. These day there are a number of providers that have use of Apple's database and offer you permanent unlocks for a small fee.

The IMEI can be easily identified in the back of the iPhone

by dialing *#06#

in the SIM tray of the iPhone

in the Settings > General > info / about.

Now that you have your IMEI Number, we will have to check for the current state of the iPhone.

Basically you can do that either by testing a different SIM card - and you will be able to get network signals ( which mean you have an unlocked iPhone ) or no signals - or by using one of the IMEI checkers providers.

Here are some free IMEI chekers.

The last thing you will do is to find a trust worthy service that provide Unlock services for iPhone and  be aware of the scams out there.
